Death Toll Predictions & The Camazotz Labyrinth Explained
With Volume 2 releasing on Christmas Day and the series finale, "The Rightside Up," arriving on New Year’s Eve, the stakes have never been higher. The penultimate episode, "The Bridge," has provided a haunting roadmap for the end.
The Final Death Toll: Who Is Most at Risk?
1. Steve Harrington
- Survival Odds: Low (30%)
- The Theory: The "babysitter" has completed his emotional arc. Between his "You die, I die" pact with Dustin and the Duffer Brothers' heavy foreshadowing regarding his "debt to death," Steve is the prime candidate for a heroic sacrifice to save the younger kids.
2. Will Byers
- Survival Odds: Moderate (50%)
- The Theory: As the primary "Bridge" to Vecna, Will’s life is intrinsically tied to the Upside Down. There is a strong possibility he may have to remain in the dimension to seal it from the inside, or sacrifice his physical form to sever the Hive Mind.
3. Max Mayfield
- Survival Odds: 50/50
- The Theory: Currently serving as a "map" inside Vecna’s subconscious mind. If Eleven cannot extract her from the Camazotz labyrinth in time, her physical body in the Hawkins hospital will likely fail.
4. Eleven
Worth a Look
- Survival Odds: High (80%)
- The Theory: While she faces the greatest danger, her death is less likely than her losing her powers permanently. The series is expected to end with her finally finding a "normal" life, even if the cost is the loss of her identity as 011.
Inside the "Camazotz" Labyrinth
The title of Episode 6, "Escape from Camazotz," references the psychological prison Vecna has constructed.
- The Mind Prison: Camazotz is a "black site" within Vecna’s subconscious where he stores the consciousness of his victims. It is a place of forced conformity where memories are erased.
- The Rescue Mission: Eleven and Kali (008) must enter this mental maze. The only way to navigate it is through "positive anchors"—specific memories of love that Vecna cannot replicate or understand.
- The Original Shadow: Fans believe Max has hidden herself in a part of this labyrinth that contains Henry Creel’s earliest, most human memories—the only weapon that can truly destabilize him.

The "Full Circle" Theory
A growing theory suggests the "Bridge" refers to a Time Loop. Many believe the story will end exactly where it began: November 6, 1983. In this scenario, Will uses his powers to ensure the gate never opens, effectively erasing the last four years of trauma—and the Party’s friendship—to save the world.
