Chetan Bhagat Book based Bollywood Movies




Chetan Bhagat is a well known Indian author, columnist, Bollywood screenwriter, social media influencer and motivational speaker. He was included in Time magazine's list of World's 100 Most Influential People in 2010. He wrote novels are Five Point Someone (2004), One Night @ the call center (2005), The 3 Mistakes of My Life (2008), 2 States: The story of my marriage (2009), Revolution 2020 (2011), Half Girlfriend (2014), One Indian Girl (2016), The Girl in Room 105 (2018) and Non-fictions are What Young India Wants (2012), Making India Awesome (2015), India Positive (2019).


Five of Chetan Bhagat’s novels have been adapted into Bollywood films. The movies are also won many awards.


Half Girlfriend (2017)



Based on a novel “Half Girlfriend” written by Chetan Bhagat. The film is directed by Mohit Suri and Starring Arjun Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Rhea Chakraborty. Madhav, a Bihari boy falls in love with Riya Somani, an affluent English speaking girl from Delhi. After stuggling to convince her to be his girlfriend, she half heartedly agrees to be his Half Girlfriend. Movie is available on Netflix.


2 states (2014)



Based on a novel “2 States: The story of my marriage” written by Chetan Bhagat. 2 states written and directed by Abhishek Varman, Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor plays the lead roles. This movie chronicles how Chetan met his wife and the difficulties they faced due to their cultural differences. It was a blockbuster hit and won two awards in 60th Filmfare Awards. Movie is available on Disney+Hotstar


Kai Po Che! (2013)



The movie directed by Abhishek Kapoor, based on a novel “The 3 Mistakes of My Life” written by Chetan Bhagat. The story revolves around three friends, Ishaan, Omi and Govind who want to start their own sports shop and sports academy. The film also revolves around the 2001 Gujarat earthquake and Godhra train burning. Amit Sadh, Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkummar Rao, Amrita Puri plays in lead role. It was the first ever Indian film to feature in the World Panorama section. Movie is available on Netflix.


3 idiots (2009)



Based on the book of “Five Point Someone: What not to do at IIT” written by Chetan Bhagat. The film follows the friendship of three students at an Indian engineering college and is a satire about the social pressures under an Indian education system. Hindi movie directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The movie also remake in Tamil in the name of “Nanban” directed by Shankar. Movie is available on Prime Video and Netflix.


Hello (2008)



Hello is a Thriller movie directed by Atul Agnihotri. The movie is inspired by Chetan Bhagat’s "One night@ call center". The story revolves around the Call-center workers receive a phone call from God. Cast Sharman Joshi, Sohail Khan, Gul Panag, Isha Koppikar, Amrita Arora, Sharat Saxena. Movie is available on Airtel Xstream.
