As the year comes to an end, we've put together a list of some of the flop Telugu films that were released this year. Despite high hopes upon their release, these movies failed to live up to expectations and served as valuable lessons for future, more successful productions. CUSTODY

OTT platform - Disney+ Hotstar

The movie revolves around Shiva (Naga Chaitanya), a young constable tasked with the high-risk responsibility of transporting a dangerous criminal named Raju (Arvind Swamy) to the court in Bengaluru. However, the entire police force wants the witness dead. Tamil director Venkat Prabhu directed the cop drama was made on a budget of Rs 45 crore and did not even make Rs 15 crore at the box office.

EXTRA ORDINARY MAN

OTT platform - Disney+ Hotstar

After disasters like ‘Maestro’ and ‘Macherla Niyojikavargam’, young actor Nithin has again chosen a lackluster plot ‘Extra Ordinary Man' which falls flat on its face. It neither boasts of a novel plot nor has an interesting narration. Nithiin plays the role of Abhi, an inspiring actor in the film. While trying to pursue his career to become something big, he runs his life in a blur until he meets the love of his life. 

SPY 

OTT platform - Amazon Prime Video

After the super success of Karthikeya 2, Nikhil headlined an action drama titled SPY, was produced by ED Entertainment and was a flop. The routine SPY theme and boring execution did not impress the audience. The synopsis reads, "After receiving the news of the death of his elder brother Subash, who worked for RAW, Jay sets out on a mission to find out what happened leading him into a bigger conspiracy of a possible nuclear attack threat to the country by an extreme radical dirty scientist".

RAMABANAM

OTT platform - Netflix

Gopichand teamed up with his lucky director Sriwass, who gave him two big hits. But sadly, Ramabanam was an outdated action drama that failed at the box office. Made on a budget of Rs 20 crore, the film failed to even make Rs 13 crore in its full run. It centers on a young gangster Vicky (Gopichand), who must protect his brother Rajaram (Jagapathi Babu) from the evil designs of GK (Tarun Arora). Along the way, he must sort out his issues with his girlfriend Bhairavi (Dimple Hayathi). 

AGENT

OTT platform - Yet to be locked.

Agent was the biggest film in Akhil Akkineni's career. Directed by Surender Reddy, this film was in the making for over two years. Akhil made a solid transformation for Agent, but the film failed at the box office. Made on a budget of Rs 85 crore, the film failed to even make Rs 20 crore at the box office.

The plot of the movie revolves around Akhil's character, a spy with a mysterious past, who is on a mission to uncover the truth about a dangerous terrorist organisation. Malayalam Megastar Mammootty played an important role, while Sakshi Vaidya made her Telugu debut with Agent. Dino Morea, a Bollywood actor, played the antagonist.

SHAAKUNTALAM

OTT platform - Amazon Prime Video

Shaakuntalam was Samantha's dream project, as she was headlining a fantasy drama for the first time in her career. Directed by Gunasekhar, Shaakuntalam was made on a budget of Rs 60 crore and only made Rs 19 crore in its full run. The tacky VFX and poor narration ended the film as a huge flop.

The mythological romantic drama film Shaakuntalam is based on the epic novel Shakuntala by writer Kalidasa. In the story, Shakuntala, the daughter of Vishwamitra and Menaka, falls in love with King Dushyanta and gets married to him. But Dushyanta does not remember Shakuntala due to the curse of sage Durvasa Maharshi. The story culminates when the couple is reunited.

RAVANASURA

OTT platform - Amazon Prime Video

After the success of Dhamaka, Ravi Teja teamed up with Sudheer Varma for the crime thriller Ravanasura. Made on a budget of Rs 50 crore, the Ravi Teja starrer made only Rs 20 crore in its full run. The synopsis reads, "An officer investigates a few brutal murders and zeroes in on criminal lawyer Ravindra, who has a secret penchant for murder".

AMIGOS

OTT platform - Netflix

The makers of Pushpa, Mythri Movie Makers, presented this film. Kalyan Ram played a triple role in this film, which is a crime thriller. Despite the promising trailer and stunning performance of Kalyan Ram, Amigos fell flat at the box office and was out in its first week of release. The synopsis reads, "When a man discovers his two doppelgangers online, he finds new connections in life and love - but danger lurks when a hidden criminal past emerges."

AADIKESHAVA

OTT platform - Netflix

The film produced on a huge scale by Sithara Entertainments, was made on a budget of Rs 20 crore. The sad part is that the film did not even make Rs 5 crore at the box office. The synopsis is "A young man gets a job at a cosmetic company & falls for its glamorous owner, but soon unforseen events begin to unfurl his family's dark past."

TIGER NAGESWARA RAO

OTT platform - Amazon Prime Video

Tiger Nageswara Rao was the most expensive film in Ravi Teja's career. The film was produced by Abhishek Aggarwal, who made Kashmir Files. The period drama about a thief was made on a budget of Rs 60 crore and made only Rs 22 crore at the box office.
